Story

The King of Rheum's daughter has been kidnapped by members of a dangerous cult. Rather than give in to the demands of the cultists, he summons the Twelve Heroes of Delonesia before his council. Your father happens to be one of these Heroes, but an unfortunate incident results in you taking his place at the castle briefing. After much thought, you decide to take on the task of rescuing the princess in your father's stead.

Characters

The Hero (age 18)

This is you, the Hero. You get to pick your gender and answer a few morality questions at the beginning of the game to determine your hero's personality. You are the first born of a local adventurer named Meracon who was anointed as a Hero of Delonesia about two decades ago. When the King of Rheum's daughter is kidnapped, the Heroes of Delonesia are summoned to the Rheum Kingdom so that they can be told of the situation and embark on a quest to rescue her.

Your father is summoned, but breaks his back before he can make the trip to Rheum. He asks you to go in his place.

You can learn basic magic spells, rudimentary weapon battle skills, and can equip almost every weapon type.

Sedsnarry Artihuate (age 17)

A precocious girl who dropped out from the Academy of Magics where her parents are both esteemed scholars and her brother graduated valedictorian from. Although brimming with potential, her self-esteem issues have so far prevented her from attaining her true ability in the magical arts.

You find her roaming Achlansburg, the small fishing village where you grew up, and upon hearing of your quest, she finds it as an opportunity to prove herself and gladly joins.

Sedsnarry specializes in fire magic. She can equip staves, maces, books, and daggers.

Katedyre "Kattixie" Denueve (age 19)

An aspiring singer whose stage name is “Kattixie”. She has her own band. Unfortunately, times are tough so her main source of income has been freelance mercenary’ing with her brother, Ricallo.

She is currently living in the basement slums of the township of Galatia.

Katedyre's battle skill "Talk", allows her to randomly rant during battle, which produces results that can be either useless (display the enemies' names) or useful (display the % of health left for each enemy). Later, she can equip musical instruments that turn the "Talk" skill into "Sing", which produces better results more of the time.

Katedyre can use all four major weapon types (sword, axe, spear, bow) in addition to minor ones (dagger, musical instrument, whips).

Ricallo Denueve (age 22)

He had been studying alchemy at the Academy of Magics but was expelled after being framed for the theft of the Grandmaster’s Staff. He went back to Galatia to join his sister in the mercenary business.

Ricallo's Alchemy skill allows him to create potions with available ingredients. He can also disperse multiple potions during battle. Also, when he uses a single item, its power is amplified by 50%.

Ricallo can use all four major weapon types and also daggers.

Redian Rubenstein (age 20)

A lowly womanizing mage from the small village of Ewyes. He never misses an opportunity to hit on any girl younger than 30. He has tried taking up summoning as a way of attracting girls. Despite his various attempts at getting girls, he seems to have very little luck with them.

Redian can summon monsters in battle. The monsters take up actual character slots so the party has to have 3 or fewer members in the active party for Redian to perform a summon. The summoned monster is around for duration of battle or until it dies. Redian also knows basic magic spells and specializes in wind magic.

He can equip staves, maces, books, and daggers.

Morse Pally (age 16)

A young priestess from Faerum. Prophecy dictates that she will meet a hero and accompany him to defeat Gaf Halloran. The prophecized hero is Ardineigo, but she mistakes you to be that hero instead. She is very selfish and looks down on others who aren’t on her level or greater. Because she’s forbidden to have a relationship, she secretly has a lot of erotic books hidden in her room but she denies having anything of that nature.

Morse can utilize "Prayer" in combat, which is the only set of healing/restorative spells in the game. She can equip staves, books, and whips.

Configuring for Keyboard

Press F1 during the game. You can map the Game Buttons to any keys on your keyboard.

Configuring for Gamepad

Press F1 during the game. You can map the Game Buttons to any buttons on your game pad. See the below picture for a reference on how you should set up the buttons on a gamepad:

Note: B and C interchanged is also an acceptable gamepad layout.

How to Play

Razkertim plays like a standard 2D style RPG. You start out by creating your main character and answering a series of morality questions to determine your character's personality. Your goal is to rescue the king's daughter, and this is accomplished by following the game's loosely linear path, actively seeking out and interpreting clues, and doing battle with tons of adversaries who get in your way. There are several companions throughout the game that will assist you and even join you in your quest.

Talking to Non-Playable Characters (NPCs)

To talk to a Non-Playable Character (NPC), simply walk up to them and hit the C button (see Game Controls section). Sometimes you will get a menu that will give you options such as Chat, Look, or Other. These will allow you more insight into the characters you interact with. You can often gain more clues or story hints through the Other topic, which brings up various subjects to ask the NPC about.

If an NPC does not give you a menu at first, usually that means they had something to say to you just one time (such as a long greeting). The next time you talk to them, they may give you the standard greeting menu.

NPCs have their own fixed schedules, though some may have random locations. They are usually sleeping at night and usually doing their job during the day. Some story-focused NPCs will only appear at critical times in the story (such as your fellow Heroes of Delonesia).

Using the Status Menu

This is the Status Menu (Accessible via the X button).

Items

The first option on the menu is Items. When you select it, a list will pop up containing the names of your partymembers and Party Bag. Each of your party members has their own unique inventory while the Party Bag serves as the default dumping ground for items/weapon/armor that you find in your journey. Note: For a partymember to use items or equip gear during battle, those items must be in his inventory.

Pressing L and R will scroll through the partymembers' inventories.

Pressing Y and X will Page Up or Page Down through an individual inventory.

This is what the party bag looks like. When you select an item from the party bag, a popup menu with two options: Use or Transfer, will appear. Use can be used only on consumerable items (such as red potions) and it does what you would think it is. Transfer is used to transfer the selected item to a party member. If you choose an item instead of a piece of equipment, you will be asked to specify the quantity that you wish to transfer.

Example of what someone's inventory looks like. When you select an item, you will get three choices: Use/Transfer/Go to Equip. Use and Transfer are the same as in the Party Bag. Go to Equip will go to the character's Equip submenu as a handy shortcut.

Equipment

This is the Equip submenu.

Here, you are able to switch out the selected party member's weapon and equipment. The number to the right of each piece of equipment is its HP (health). You switch out a weapon or equipment by simply selecting it then pressing the C button. The below inventory window will be active, and you then select the replacement gear.

Pressing Left or Right on the equipment window will allow you to see additional equipment statistics such as how much Evade each gear adds.

Skills

This is the Skills submenu:

Pressing L and R will scroll through your characters' skill submenus. Pressing Y and X will PageUp/PageDown through your characters' skill submenus.

There are four types of skills:

Passive: These skills appear in your skill window with the yin-yang symbol. They are skills with a constant effect. For instance, the Fire Magic SXP: 1/2 Off skill halves the skill experience requirements for learning fire magic spells for that character.

Weapon Skills: These are learned by your fighter-type party members. They can only be used if the appropriate weapon type is equipped. For instance, the skill Axe Blaster can only be used if you are equipped with an axe. Weapon Skills do not consume MP but they do consume the weapon's HP.

Magic Spells: These are learned by your mages and priestess. They are what you expect: Offensive or Support spells that consume MP.

Menu Skills: These skills open up additional menus and do not consume MP. An example is the Mix skill, which opens up the Mix submenu.

Skills that are battle-only, can only be used during battle. An example of a battle-only skill is the Fire [Lv1] spell. Some skills can be used in and out of battle. An example of such a skill is the Heal [Lv1] skill. Some skills can only be used outside battle, from the Skill or Shortcut Menu. An example of such a skill is the Warp spell.

Status Screen

This is the Status Screen. Pressing L and R will scroll through your characters' individual status screens.

This screen tells you the character's name, class, whether he is in the Active Party or Reserve Party, shows his face, Level, Experience, Experience to Next Level, Status Ailment/Status Enhancement, stats, equipment, and Skill Experience.

Personality and Fame only appear on the Hero's status screen.

Journal

In your bedroom, there is a book sitting on a desk. The moment you take it, the Journal submenu is unlocked. The journal keeps track of your major quests and is a handy guide for where to go next in the game.

As you progress through a quest, the journal's text for that quest will change. To read earlier journal entries on a topic, select the topic and press the L button. To go back to more recent entries on that topic, press the R button.

Extra

The Extra Submenu opens up a small menu with three options: Bromides, Biographies, Statistics

Bromides - Throughout the game are well hidden Bromide items. A bromide is a full screen CG graphic depicting one or more character in some sort of situation. The bromides are stored in this submenu for easy access/viewing.

Biographies - This lets you read each character's biography. They are added as each new character joins.

Statistics - This screen gives you a list of various game statistics. You can find out your current play time from this window.

Options

The Options menu currently has two options: Windowskin and Game Warnings.

Windowskin allows you to change the color and background graphic of the game windows. Game Warnings, when on, will alert the player of something that they should pay attention to in the game.

Save

This option allows you to save the game. You are able to save anywhere in the game.

Quit

This allows you to return to the title screen or exit to windows.

Using the Shortcut Menu

The shortcut menu can be accessed via the A button. There are five options in this menu:

Talk to Party - This option allows you to talk to your party members.

Party Control - This option can only be used in Inns.

Auto-Heal - This option allows you to automatically heal everyone using Morse's heal spells. This does not work in the current version of the game.

Mix - This will bring up the Mix menu if you have Ricallo on your party.

Warp - This will cast the warp spell if one of your characters knows it.

The Party Control menu has four options.

Change Viewpoint - This allows you to change to the viewpoint of one of your party members. You will be able to explore the town as that party member but you cannot leave the town or use the Warp skill as a party member.

Disband Party - This removes all of your party members except the Hero. They will idle around town and will rejoin by talking to them and selecting Join.

Drop Member - This allows you to remove a specific party member.

Rename Member - This allows you to rename any party member. Note that some conversations or cut-scenes may still reference the original names.

Battle

Battle is the primary means by which the party gains experience. Battle is initiated when you bump into one of the many monsters that walk around in dungeons or random world zones.

This is what the start of each Battle turn looks like. At the start of each turn, you have a top menu for Fight, Change Party, or Escape.

Fight will allow you to start selecting each partymember's action. When the last partymember's action has been chosen, the round will begin.

Change Party will allow you to modify your party before the round.

Escape will allow you to attempt to escape. You can even use this during most boss encounters.

When you select Fight, you then pick each partymember's actions starting with the Hero. This is what the actions menu looks like. Each member has more than 4 commands, so you will need to scroll down to see the rest.

Battle Commands

Monster Races, Elements, and Weapon Types

The three main things that affect the damage your attack or skill does are Race, Element, and Weapon Type. Each enemy has its own race, element, and is strong/weak/neutral to the various weapon types.Typically the weapon or skill description will tell you if it is strong or weak against a certain type.
